PROJECT MASTER DATA

Project Title

Developing a Green Business Support Strategy for UBCCE

Project Type

Capacity Building / Training

Duration

04.2010 – 11.2011

Main Goal

The overall goal of the project is the elaboration of a business strategy that helps private sector associations and enterprises to respond to the multiple challenges and opportunities of climate change in an efficient and proactive manner. The strategy will give orientation to the business sector and address information needs, management issues, business opportunities, technology transfer and cooperation with a special focus on green business, climate-friendly technologies, energy and resource efficiency.

Pilot Countries

Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Georgia

Project Task Force

Murat Zöngür (UBCCE Secretary General)
Rodion Kolishko (CONFEU, Ukraine)
Rashad Rasullu (ATIB, Azerbaijan)
Dimitri Japaridze (GEC, Georgia)
Associated members (with advisory role): GTZ & BAUM

The countries of the Black Sea and Caspian Region are facing the need of finding answers to the multiple challenges related with climate change. A considerable proportion of environmental problems, and more specifically greenhouse gas emissions, is caused by inefficiencies in the industrial sector and producing companies. Furthermore, there is restricted access to environment and climatefriendly technologies as well as to qualified services and advice that would help companies to cope with those challenges and consider them adequately in their management systems.

Private sector organizations like chambers and associations are not yet prepared to cover the respective information and training needs of their members. So far, a broad lack of awareness for climate-relevant topics has to be stated among companies and decision-makers.

In addition, there is insufficient exchange of information, experiences and know how, particularly with regard of climate and environment-friendly technologies. This is not only true within the business sector of the Black Sea and Caspian region but also with respect to exchange with according European associations.

Therefore UBCCE, upon interest of its members, has identified the necessity to develop a comprehensive strategy, addressing climate change from a private sector perspective, taking into account the situation of the regional business community. The strategy includes both, promotion of climate-friendly production and the concerted enhancements of the national and regional environmental technology sectors.

The project is supported by the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ) on behalf of Federal Ministry for the Environment of Germany (BMU) in the framework of its International Climate Initiative.
